Well Portland is pretty much exactly what I imagined and it was perfect. The greenness of this city and its surrounding areas is insanely beautiful I still can't get over it. We started our trip by flying in Thursday morning to maximize our stay on the West Coast. We checked in to our Airbnb and walked into downtown to get our bearings. Lunch at Little Bird, beers at Deschutes was how we spent our afternoon before heading back to get ready for dinner. Our night was pretty epic -- pre-dinner cocktails at The Green Room, dinner at Clyde Common at the Ace Hotel, then night caps at Multnomah Whiskey Library (amazing - a must go; long wait, so put your name in before dinner!) Next time in this area at night: Pepe Le Moko for cocktails.
Friday was a BIG day and it was my favorite by far. We rented a car and ventured for Mt. Hood National Forest and the Hood River Valley. Before hitting the road we grabbed a bite at Pine State Biscuits (yum!) We made many stops along the way -- Vista House at Crown Point (pretty great view), Multnomah Falls (it is worth stopping, but get here early and on a weekday if possible - real touristy), a 4 mile hike to Punchbowl Falls, then on to the Hood River Valley. We grabbed lunch at The Gorge White House, which has a great food truck and view of Mt. Hood. You can U-Pick flowers, berries, wine taste -- a great afternoon pit stop. Next stop was at Apple Valley Country Store for a huckleberry milkshake (to die for) and a dip in the river. Not quite sure this is allowed or not, but underneath the bridge by the store is a rope swing in the river -- the boys took a quick dip before heading back to the city. On our way back we made one last stop, at McMenamins Edgefield, a resort-like compound that I'd definitely stay a night at if I came back. They have amazing bars/restaurants (lots), spa, winery, live concerts and more. After a long day, we napped and regrouped for an epic night out: pre-dinner drinks at The Richmond Bar and Whiskey Soda Lounge, dinner at Ava Genes (one of the best meals we've had in awhile), post-dinner treat (after a 30+ minute wait) of Salt & Straw ice cream.
